How an egg gets its passives
-
Pool the parents
Both parents put their passives in one pool. A passive both have counts once.
-
Roll how many to take
It takes 1 to 4 from the pool at random. A small pool gives all it has.
-
Add random passives
It adds 0 to 3 random passives, never past 4 and never a repeat.
Datamined codeDerived from the game code, not from a data table. Weights 4/3/2/1 for inheriting 1/2/3/4 passives from the combined parent pool (game setting, unchanged 0.7.3 -> 1.0). The sampling procedure comes from an Early Access disassembly. The chances for each count are game settings. The step images show them as bars.
Details: the weights and where they come from
| Taken | Chance |
|---|---|
| 1 | 40% |
| 2 | 30% |
| 3 | 20% |
| 4 | 10% |
| Added | Chance |
|---|---|
| 0 | 40% |
| 1 | 30% |
| 2 | 20% |
| 3 | 10% |
The weights are game settings. The order of the steps comes from a disassembly of the Early Access game.
We infer that breeding draws its random passives from the game's general passive lottery.
The Special Cake rule
- Pool of 4 100% The egg is a copy of the pool, with no room for a random one.
- Pool of 5 20% It still takes 4, picked at random from the pool.
- Pool under 4 All It takes the whole pool, and random passives may fill the rest.
Game dataRead directly from the game data tables. The Special Cake sets the number taken from the parents to 4. It helps most when the parents carry only what you want.
When the cake hurts
From a pool of four, a normal cake gives only Artisan and Workaholic 2.1% of the time and the Special Cake never does.

The chance the egg has every wanted passive, from the same code as the passive calculator. Passives a species always carries are left out.
Full table, with "only wanted" odds
"All wanted" means the egg has every wanted passive, maybe with others. "Only wanted" means it has nothing else.

Random passives
- World Tree only
- 7
- Mutated Pals only
- 5
- Legendary only
- 6
- Other never random
- 12
85 of the 115 passives can be added at random. The other 30 come only from a parent that has them.
Legend is never added at random. These 6 Pals are born with it, so one must be in the family line.
12 rank 4 passives (Remarkable Craftsmanship, Diamond Body, Swift, Demon God and others) have weight 5 against 100. They show up by chance about 20 times less often than any one common passive.
The four-passive plan
-
Make two parents
One parent with two wanted passives and nothing else, the other with the other two.
-
Use a Special Cake
Breed those two with it. Every egg gets all four.
-
Pick any species
Passive rolls ignore species, so use any pair that hatches the Pal you want.
Find pairs in the reverse calculator. Cakes in general: breeding cakes.
